Problem encoding Metallica S&M in nandub

I tried posting this over on the software forum too but nobody reads that.

It crashes after 1st pass no matter what options I set, from what i can tell.

Im using Nandub release 1.01rc1, released last July (newest as far as I know) -- I've ripped/encoded over 100 dvds using nandub and the associated programs used in the SBC guide on Divx-Digest and never had a major problem (The One sound was a little off but fixable) This one wont touch a 2nd pass no matter what i do, it crashes after the 1st pass every single time. I can post the exact error i have here if anyone knows how to read nandubs error codes.

The options I have set are:

Filters of Cropping and Resize (606x384, precise bilinear) -- It doesnt matter it crashes this way with or without these filters.

VBR Mp3 audio from a mp3 made using Graphedit and Gogobatch.
    Audio Interleaving of 500ms

No secondary stream of audio. (Someone tell me what a secondary stream is, please)

Usually I set the bitrate at around 900 but I've tried 1000 and also as low as 700 but nothing helps it.

The way I am doing it I take the entire DVD file and rip out 90% of it or so and leave just the one song I want to encode at a time. It ALSO crashes if I try to do the entire DVD at once as one long encode.

If I need to post more info please let me know Im going completely spare.

HOW did you rip your data??
    remember that s&m contains multi-angle!

      Uh

Smartripper seemed to do the job, I checked it out after ripping and it worked fine. (apparently)

I just finished doing a 20 second clip over and over to see what was causing it to crash. NOTHING. I built up on options slowly over time and it worked after everything I added. Im now up to every option that made it crash in the first place but it doesnt crash now. (Btw resize 606x384 makes it look NASTY, like its encoded from a camcorder watching a big screen LCD billboard at a stadium from 5000 feet away.)

Will let you know as I do more, Im encoding on 2 comps right now and both are on 2nd pass....

      Req

your resolution of 606x384 will lead to an incorrect aspect ratio

i used 576x412 and found it a good compromise

            Eh

How do you get nandub to preview a file with sound and smooth video, mine wont do it it plays TOTALLY the wrong sounds. (Never even close to the sound where the file should be at, and it skips more than it plays)

            Req

                Because...

Because I have no other way to sync where one song ends and the next begins.

Preview doesnt work with sound on ANY player using vobs or the vfapi.avi

                    Nope

I dont have the original DVD with me its with my brother so I cant play it to check.

How do you get powerdvd to play vob files without accessing the DVD drive?

The sync part is basically this: I can't figure out based ONLY on picture where a song starts and stops. Im doing single song rips out of the entire show.

use powerdvds FILE mode to play any file you like (or almost any ) - should work fine!

                        Allrighty

Yeah I just found it! Very cool I wish Id known that before doing Metallica because I ended up encoding the entire thing as 2 large files and then going in and ripping each song out. Very annoying either way tho, but needs to be done.

Im doing Queensryche Live Evolution now, what a great DVD! (I hate metallica btw doing it for a friend)

                            Hehe

Hehe actually I used to love metallica when they hadnt sued napster or gone "slick" -- They just got way too commercial, and suing all those companies made them unworthy of respect or support in my mind...

I mean, come on! Suing Victoria Secret has GOT to mean they love money more than they love anything else.
