Making .AVIs

Hey how can I make a 5 second .mpg file
out of a BMP or a MPG picture
so then i can encode into .avi
and then stick it on the front of my div-xs
and when I am sticking it on
what program should I use?

Never tried this before, but I believe you can use Adobe Premiere to create AVIs.

If I use Aviedit would the program make freeze frames?
because if yes i would have to look for another alternative
becuase then it just gets annoying
putting it in then fixing the freezeframes

Virtualdub can be used to make .avi from .bmp?
if thats the case is it with a plugin?
can i use nandub as well then ?
