    a/v synch

    Hi there.

I downloaded ALI G in da house for my college lecturer .. (thought I would get xtra credits for my assessment!)

I made it in to a VCD (orginally DIVX)

    then I burned using nero.

played fine on my PC but he says on his standalone DVD player, there is a BIG gap of 2-3 secs (audio first, then video) part the way through the movie.

How can I solve this problem?

    Please help,

I have discovered that the DIVX file was 48000Hz audio MP3, if I down sample it, will it stop the a/v problem?

yeh I know but the audio is automatically converted to 44100Hz in TMPGENC. I am not sure if I should downsample the wav to 44100Hz then load in TMPGENC and encode.

        Help!

Right, I am encoding as we speak:

use something like wavelab to downsample to 44100Hz then encode as MP3 then load this in TMPGENC with the video and encode.

Make sure that the audio is 44100Hz, not 48000Hz.

If video is ahead of audio then decrease the frame rate.

encoding to mp3 before feeding your audio file into tmpeg is not tooooo good.

simply save it to wav with wavelab and use this wav with tmpeg.

I have done just that overnight - let TMPGENC encode the downsampled wave from wavelab. I hope there is no a/v synch on the dvd player....

Thanks again guys, you have been helpful!

I did this 2wice and still doesn't work:

right, I have downsampled the wave to 44100Hz and saved it as wav.

loaded the avi and the wav in TMPGENC
                  encode as VCD

I wacthed it, everytime a person talks, there is crackles.

How can I sort out this problem?

I tried it with the MP3 as well but still the same.

It only works with 48000Hz perfectly.

How can I solve this with 44100Hz?

if the crackels weren't their orginally, then the app you downsampled it was the reason for this. Use something like 'streambox ripper' or CDex.
