but i head lately that the new ones
with div-x 5.02 make 'SUPERB' quality
can some peopl who use them tell me if they do make good
quality?
p.s i prefer nandub/divx 3 as recommended from enchanter

I haven't tried the new DivX 5.02 anyway. Is the bug (where it automatically takes over 3.11 playback without your permission) fixed already? It was only with great difficulty that I managed to remove the pesky codec, so I wouldn't even entertain the idea of trying to get into this trouble again.

@Shion: Most anime fansubbers still use 3.11 as their codec of choice (The 4.x encodes have always looked inferior to me, even the BakaMX ones). I still personally use 3.11 too. For some reasons, I'm still restricting my encodes to this codec, rather than the MPEG4 V2.

i installed 5.02 PRO lately and in combination with GORDIANKNOT 0.26 BETA the quality is even better (in dark scenes) than what nandub+ ms v2 gives me!

playback of other formats is still the way it was before on my system and i can strongly advise you guys to test gk with divx 502 pro!

it is faster and the quality is perfect!

But what about the file size? is it lower????

Will it still give me the same results without doing 2 passes? (Like 3.11alpha where I just encode once using vidomi or vd?)

Techno, have you personally tested DivX5, both for playback and encoding? I'm tempted to try it really, but am still holding back due to the earlier-mentioned issue. I'm not such a DivX3.11 loyalist anyway. I always choose what works and gives good quality.

So, can anyone answer my first question? I will accept either yes or no.

Yes I have tested it, since day 1 (DIVX v5 came out) and it sucked,! Never worked for me, I am now going to test the new version see if it make s difference, but I doubt it!

I love the original and best 3.11alpha!

I have been using Neodivx for a long time. Its quick, and version 3.0 is so simple.
Shame they complicated it later, still works well in later versions, just used to its simple ways over the months.

Divx 5.02 looks nice, and gives good depth to the encoded movies. After installing it, gave me grief with playing movies in Windows Media player 6.4 (stretches it out wide) .
Back to xvid for me for the time being.


Edited to add....Neodivx gives a good enough quality to enjoy the movie without visible macroblocks in 3.11 and the same in XviD (2 pass), using 720 by 576 res and bitrate about 1250 and mp3 128 CBR.

folks all i can say is: divx5.02 PRO works like a charm on my two machines.

it peacefully coexists with divx3 ans ms v2!


and above all: the quality is just marvellous!

@ techno: if it doenst work out for you it does NOT AT ALL mean it is crap!

i have testet it for a couple of days now, doing some 3-4 encodings of the same title with both nandub/ms v2 and gordianknot026b/divx502pro with different resizer and resolutions and so far divx5 is BETTER!

i have made my mind and i will definitely use it from now on!

of course i was sceptical at first concerning the codec and its influence on my system. therefore, i made a complete backup of my drive c using driveimage, but it was not neccessary at all.

i installed the codec according to the notes doom9 posted on circumvent GAIN.
