removing audio stream from divx file

Well, i got an divx-file of which i wanna try compressing it with compressavi 1.05. To do this it needs to be (to my knowledge) a divx file without sound. I've copied the sound stream with avi to wav and that went succesful. i now got an mp3 file named matrix.wav with the following properties: bitrate:96 kbps, 2 channels (stereo) and 48 KHz sample rate. I now want to strip the audio from the divx. which programm should i use for this?
can i make the audiofile smaller by reencoding it with a lower samplerate, without much quality loss?
Any help very appreciated, im a complete n00b.

      open it in VirtualDub

choose "direct stream copy" in the video drop down menu

in the audio menu choose "no audio"

      then save the avi

i guess vdub is virtual dub...
I've never heard of muxing..... what is it and how do i do it?
this is starting to get intresting, since i got more movies which are to big to fit on a cd.
              ofcourse i want best quality.
Are you familiar with the method compressavi uses? Sound pretty good to me, but it also sounds as a lot of work, ah well, im busy with it now...
              thanks

                  1) vbud = virtual dub

                  2) muxing is when the audio and video is joined together in oine file

                  3) i am not familiar with compressavi

                  4) i would suggest using the more popular tools. not only are they better, but we will (everybody @ the forums) will be able 2 give better help.

                  5) i would look at doom9.org as he has very good guides. take a look at this:

                  6) what is your source e.g. DVD

let us know how u get on. they is a lot to ripping. the best rippers are dedicated and are intrigued by it and want to know more and more.

Well hacker_on_fire, my source is a divx movie, the matrix, which was released at sharereactor. Movie type finder gives me the following info:
FourCC info: filestream and compressed stream: div3. It also says DivX MPEG-4
Info: low motion codec DivX v3.
                    Its 829 MB,
And file properties in winxp gives me this: 512x272, 23fps, 103kbps data rate, 24 bit sample size. Audio info xp gives on the movie file: 2:16:21 long, 96kbps MP#.
I'll check out doom9's site tomorrow, its 10:30 PM here and i got school tomorrow. I'll finish the compressavi thing and tell you how the quality is and if the file got small enough.
Go to http://www.divx-digest.com/software/compress_avi.html for a little info to it and downloading... Its an intresting idea, but boy its timeconsuming on my 500 mhz P3.
Thanks for all the help, you too, starfish and uncasms. I'll keep you up to date.
                    Sleep tight

                      who/what is sharereactor?

i dont believe in this compressavi cos its not possible as far as i know to reduce the filesize without losing video/audio quality, otherwise we all would be using it

well, ill just try compressavi sometime (i should get a new amd 2000+ pc this week) and do it like the guide says. sharereactor (www.sharereactor.com) is the biggest page on the internet with edonkey2000 links. You can a couple of hundreds of ISOS and dvd rips and screeners (cinema movies, or movies that arent even in the cionema's yet, star wars three was released 3 days before it hit the cinemas) there. if you like martial arts (jet li and jackie chan ecpesially) go to http://hk.linja.net/amed2k/. Here are a couple of hundreds of martial arts movies (although with bad availability most of the time). This is edonkey2000 links too.
well, really going to sleep now , see you tomorrow

                              thats cool by me

of course we are here to talk about encoding not downloading rips. encoding is so much more fun, then downloading + at the end you feel proud + a sense of achievement.
