I have an mpeg-2 file (video+audio) and I am using Xmpeg 4.5 to convert it to DivX. I have already installed DivX 4.12 and Radium audio codec (mp3). I am using the 2-pass process. I select audio compression, Fraunhoffer and 224 kbits/s since that is the rate used to create the mpeg-2 file. After conversion, the video comes out ok but the audio is choppy; the sound comes and goes at a rapid rate; it isn't smooth and it causes the video to get a little jerky too. What am I doing wrong??? Any help is greatly appreciated.

thats xmpeg for you
u need to extract the audio from the vob/mpeg2 file
then open the video in vdub. select direct stream copy for the video. now dont choose 'avi audio' thats the choppy one. instead choose wav/ac3 (in using nandub). then choose 'full processing mode' for audio and choose the prefered compression
finally save the avi
thats a full proof plan -
grrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR................DIV X v4.12
do u want better quality and LOWER file size?
use DIVX 3.11alpha!!!
To keep the file size to a DESIRED file size, and EVEN BETTER quality, DVD or better....use nandub 2 passes.

I'm still having no luck with this. (BTW, changed my username).
Let me re-explain the problem. I have an mpeg-2 file (video+audio) created by a TV-tuner/capture board. The file plays fine in MS MediaPlayer6.4 . But VirtualDub cannot open the file!? I don't know why!? So I tried Xmpeg4.5. I can open the file, but when I right-click->Run->audio player to check the audio, the audio is choppy. When I continue with the conversion(DivX4.12), the resulting avi file has choppy video and audio. So I tried it again by sending the video and audio in separate streams to the hard disk. This way, the video is choppy but the audio is fine. Why? I've tried different iDCT (opt.MMX, miha ref.), key frame rate, but no luck. Is there anything special I have to know about the mpeg-2 file?
The reason I chose Xmpeg4.5 is because it's an all-in-one application. Is NanDub the same? Will it also take care of the audio?
Thanks for any help.Comment
