    have you..?

If you have turned Harry Potter or True Lies into Divx, please tell me how and what you used. I have had great trouble with audio/video sync with both of these movies, and I wondered if anyone has sucessfully ripped them.

Have you tried using Virtual/nandub to fix the audio synch. problem?

yes, i compile the audio and video seperately and then join them in nandub.

in harry potter, which i have not spent much time working on, i skipped to the end and set the frame rate to 24fps which kept the end scene in sync. i then went back to the begining, and (if i remember correctly) audio plays after the video.

as for true lies, it starts in sync, falls slightly off, then goes back to good sync. i tried inverse telecine in nandub as once recommended, but this did nothing.

Did you use DVD2AVI at anytime? If you did you probably got a ac3 file or another sound file that has a value like delay -xx. If you haven't tried this try to use that value in vd/nd audiuo skew correction.

          For Harry Potter:

          Flask v.0.594PX3
          Set framerate to 23.976
Under "Video" tab, checkmark "Reconstruct Progressive Images"
Under "Audio" tab, select "Decode Audio"
Select PCM (Uncompressed .WAV format) 48,000Hz for audio format (This will maintain synchronization)
When selecting your DivX codec, checkmark "Split files" (3,600)

After fully converted, load first file into VirtualDub and append the additional files in sequential order

Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
Under the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose the 48,000Hz MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) setting you prefer

          Save with a new filename

          Let us know of your success ;>}

i will try this out tonight when i get home. i am at work right now.

also, i have tried flask before, but if i remember correctly, it crashes when i use it.

i currently use DivX Machine, which is a very nice gui with some other programs in it. it is very stable and works well every time. anyway, i have been encoding the divx video and mp3 audio seperately, then joining them together, then changing the framerate to fit once i am done.

i doubt that there is anything wrong with my method of video compression, but i wondered if it is better to encode the audio as mp3 right away, or later, as setarip suggested?

thanks for the help, and ill be glad to try this when i get home.

since gknot seems such a popular program, i started downloading that. while working on it, i spent some time on harry potter. thanks to setarip, i found that it needed to be 23.976 fps, and at this point, it was just a mis-aligned video/audio. i delayed the audio by 12 seconds, and voila! perfect movie.
