I have read all the articles relevant to making a CD backup from a DVD and have tried repeatedy with many programs to no avail. The end result is usually having a file that is 2 gigs or more that won't even play under PowerDVD. DOes anyone know of a link to a ONE STEP no BS program that would work for the average person?
DVD to CD, how? (no more bs)

Have you tried GordianKnot and Nandub/Virtualdub?
If not try it, it's not very easy but if you follow a guide it shouldn't be any problem.
go to www.doom9.org/gknot-main2.htm (divx3.11 sbc nandub)
or www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm (divx5.0.2 virtualdub)

Well last time i used DVD Decrypter to rip onto hard drive which is the easy part. Then i used Flask MPEG 0.594 to convert. I always end up with files that are huge in the end. I have "detailed" instructions on how to configure FlasK MPEG but no avail. To make matters worse i purchased Backup-DVD online which is a conversion tool and even though it is faster than Flask MPEG and it automatically spits file sizes in 700mb chunks it still rips files to big. I have 3 CD's for a 130min DVD. WHy is this soo difficult?Comment

Have you correctly set the bitrate for your conversion? A calculator will yield the bitrate value you should use to get your particular movie onto 1 CD. Having the codec properly installed in your system is necessary too. In addition to that, check that you are using MP3 for your audio, instead of uncompressed PCM .wav file.Comment

Well i used the fast motion Divx 4 codec and I am told a bit rate calculator will not help you with the fast motion Divx codec. I have also tried to lower my bitrate to 900 but still have a huge file. However the audio is odd. I try to pick "cd quality" for sound but it always ends up with this PCM sound. Perhaps that is a factor? Do you ever have problems with Flask MPEG or other conversion program that will not allow anything but PCM audio?Comment
