Help Please!! How to extract .WAV from MPG and AVI??

Hello.

I would very appreciate it if anyone can help me with this. I need to extract WAV file from MPEG and AVI formatted video. I'm planning to make on-line education courseware and i only need the audio, not video. Which program is the easiest and best to do this job? Also, is there anyway I can extract sound from WMV formatted videos too?
