    Backup-DVD program

Would anyone care to download one of my rips or try out a program i purchased? The reason i ask this is i had so many problems with conversion that i ended up purchasing one of those progarms that do it for you (yah laugh it up) but it just did not come together for me any other way.

Now it is working quite well except that the quality is debatable with some rips. FOr some reason you see squares on the color black. However with some other colors it looks great. A professional opinion would be most welcome.

A name to the program(s) that you used would help...

Hmm. A cnet-like webpage. Interesting. Very deceptive.

Seriously, have you read any of the guides available around here? Followed properly, they should yield outstanding and satisfactory results, without you having to spend any cents on any useless programs or bloatware (Almost all of the recommended programs in the guides are free). I'm always against buying programs for purposes such as this, though I admit it really appeals to people who want the all-in-one, no-hassle (Not so) programs.

The software you have bought, is just DVDX with a modified gui.

              Heh!

Yes i have literally spent many hours and tons of experiments but with undesiralbe results in the end. Cropping, file sizing and Audio syncing was always my downfall.

I sincerely respect all the people that post their guides and try to help people here. Sometimes though if the frustration gets too be too much you actually think about doing what i did, (also i may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer).

Jeez i just visited the website that KHP posted and it appears that i purchased a freeware program that someone is peddling as Backup-DVD. Sigh...

What is your opinion of the DVDX program? Any good compared to FlasK or Gordion ?

I haven't used DVDx personally but my mate Techno knows a fair bit about it. If i can remember correctly he's got a guide on it so he would be a good person to ask.

I don't quite understand what you find so confusing about chopping are resizeing. Feel free to ask, if there are particular settings, you don't understand.

Yes it's very sad, that such people are allowed to operate. The regular members of this forum, work very hard, to help people avoid falling into such traps. Which it why you make me sad, I feel like we failed you.

I suppose DVDX is an ok tool, I have only used it a few times, I find it easy to use, and it probably has less bugs than flask. And isn't as configurable as GordianKnot.

Is there such a thing as a seperate program that will perform a second pass on the video for DVDX? Would Virtual DUb do it?

If your using DivX 4/5 then all u got to do is select second pass from the codec settings and show where the first pass files created are.

First and second pass, must be done with the same set of tools, using exactly the same settings.

If you want an easy way to rip DVDs, try www.vidomi.com. It's by far the easiest method I've seen so far. It'll handle practically everything for you, including resizing, cropping, audio, file splitting and so forth. It's free and 10x better than what you paid for (not saying that DVDx is bad).

personally i never have trust in 'all-in-one' appz as i dont think they produce better. thats the same with a tv thats has a biult in vcr. i they are seperate they r likely to work better and produce better output.

                            but thats just my opinion

Well Gknot is somewhat an "all-in-one". But its obviously made by somebody wise. I mean if you dont use Gknot, youll prolly use SmartRipper+DVD2AVI+VDub, which is just Gknot, except that Gknot lets you tinker a bit more with the settings. And its kinda cool to let it rip and encode the audio for you.
Although i would prefer for it to make it a wav and then compress it with some other codec. I dont know which MP3 encoder is better, LAME, Fraunhofder, or that other one, though.
