NanDub Problems in Win2000...

Can someone tell me if NanDub is fully compatible with Windows 2000?

I'm having problems creating a Stats file in W2000. NanDub appears to do the first pass correctly, but when I look for the stats file it isn't there!

...so I've checked the usual reasons - like I do have full admin rights etc...

The second pass works fine and an avi file is created, but of course without using a stats file.

Has anyone come across this problem before - for that matter is NanDub fully compatible with W2000?

The only idea I have is that maybe W2000 doesn't like the 4 character extention that NanDub tries to use .stat?

I think almost everybody here has a "backup" version of XP (including me), which is just 2000 with a fisher-price gui.
No probs here, so i dont think its win2k.

Nandub works fine with my Win2K Pro SP2. In fact, I've been using Win2K for more than 2 years and I've never felt any happier using it (compared to other versions of Windows, inc. XP).

Thanks for the feedback, I'll dig around a little further now I know that NanDub should work fine with Windows 2000.

One thing I have noticed is that NanDub performance with Win2000 seems much better that with Win98...

My 2000 PC is a Pentium 450 and Nandub converts at about 7.5 fps. However my Win98 PC is a PIII-1000 and NanDub only manages about 8.5 fps

That's too large a difference. Were these done using the same conversion settings, and also from the same source (ie. VCDs can be converted at a greater speed than DVDs).

Well I've since done a more 'scientific' test using exactly the same settings for each pc, converting the same file, which was a .vob frameserved to NanDub using AviSynth (AviSynth was doing just a simple resize - no other filters)

The results were as follows:

PIII-450 (win2000) average 6.5 fps

PIII-1000 (Win95) average 8.5 fps

same PIII-1000 (WinXP) average 9.5 fps

Are these the sort of figures you would expect?

Does anyone know what sort of performance you get with say a Pentium 2Ghz+ and XP?

Btw, I sorted my original problem - just reinstalled NanDub and now the .stats file is created ok

Without knowing your conversion settings, I can't comment much. However, the conversion speed gap between the PII 450 and PIII 1000 is rather too small for the difference in CPU speed. I can almost say the PIII is under-performing, either due to some bugs or a motherboard bandwith limitation (most likely).

Very good, as long as you use no lower than DDR-RAM and a fast P4 chipset, like the SiS645DX or Via P4X333. My P4 1.8 with DDR-RAM and SiS645 can convert a PAL DVD at 25-30fps. If only I can get such speed when converting NTSC materials....

I liked to know Enchanter if these results were taken when encoding / not encoding with audio.

hacker_on_fire, it was done with audio being direct streamed. Generally, this is the speed range I get for PAL conversion. NTSC conversion, which I do more often, does not go as fast as this.

i´ve allready tried several times uninstalling/installing the codec, but didn´t worked out. but thank´s for help anyway! by the way, i noticed the error about the sound codec, it´s already corrected. in the list of video codecs there are a lot of codecs, but it doesn´t apear any of them in dvdx list of available codecs. i realized that when i change the Export(AVI+Premiere) option to RGB32 or RGB24, it apears the Radius Cinepak codec, but it´s the only one in the list. i still can´t put the divx 4.12 or any version of the that codec (from 3.1alpha to Pro5.02) codec in that list.

@ Enchanter, yeah, i got a athalon xp 1.6ghz + 512mb ddr ram, and thats about the same speed i get.
