Converting H.264 to DVD?

I already tried using DVDFlick, ConvertXToDVD and a few others and I seem to keep running into the same problem. The video will start to skip when trying to convert a file from H.264 to DVD. The only one I've been able to do it with is DivxToDVD (the old ConvertXToDVD). However, when I use that, I have to downgrade the sound from 5.1 to 2.0, which is obviously not as good So does anyone know how to convert a Quicktime file encoded with H.264 to DVD? Any help would be great!

Re-mux the MOV to MP4 with YAMB. Then try running through DVD Flick.

So I tried that, and I keep getting Muxing Failed. I'm assuming I am doing it right. I just hit Add to the Audio/Video portion and then hit mux? Here's the log:

Try a 2-Step process ...

1) Convert .m2v to AVI (XviD preferred)

2) Convert AVI to DVD

I tried converting to AVI before through Quicktime, and the quality seems to go down and also I couldn't keep it in 5.1 sound for some reason...

Not knowing how much YAMB depends on MediaInfo and whether this problem is caused by it, perhaps you can try updating your existing 1.6.0 version of YAMB with the new MediaInfo DLL file which I've attached to this post - just overwrite the mediainfo.dll file in your YAMB install directory (c:\program files\YAMB).

Otherwise, you could try the new beta/preview version of YAMB (2.0) instead:

Alrighty, first off thanks for the responses! It's nice to actually get help for once! So here's my results, I tried the MediaInfo thing to the old YAMB, and it still didn't work. So I tried the beta version which worked. However, the video still skips and with the beta version of DVDFlick (the only one that I could semi-get to work), the audio seems to be switched up a bit (the center is in the left channel and the left channel is in the center). So basically I am having the same exact problems even after doing the mp4 thing. However they're not quite as bad (still unwatchable though, due to the fact that it freezes up on a regular player). So any other ideas from anyone?

Hi Clayton,

Can you attach the "GSpot" info of your Original H.264 file ... or better yet can you attach a Zipped "5 seconds" piece of it ... so we can play around with it and see if can figure out something.

Well the thing I am trying to convert is a 30 minute play from like the 2nd grade, but I've also been messing with quicktime trailers since they're way shorter than my 30 minute thing to see if it's just the play or if it's quicktime in general. So really, if you go and download any quicktime trailer from apple, it'd be the same thing as what I am testing.

they are just containers that support different things?
h264/x264 is supposed to replace xvid/divx but from what I have seen it's got some growing up to do

Because I have seen a few files that say 720p.264 but the extension is MKV so it just make me more confuse

Hi Clayton,

Your problem was bugging me ... so as you mentioned I went to the Apple site and downloaded a sample .m4v file made with H.264 ... lets call it "Test Clip 1"

1) I checked the Values of the test clip to make sure I was not loosing any quality or Audio ...

2) I ran test clip thru "DVDFlick 1.2.1.3" and it worked just fine ... it converted to DVD and I played back the DVD and it was fine.

Check you version of DVDFlick ... and or re-install ...

I tried DVDFlick 1.2.1.3 for a while, and it actually worked, and then one day it just plain stopped. I guess there's a few cases of that happening too. It just gives an error when it hits the end of the first pass (I do the multi-pass thing). So I was trying out the beta version, which swapped some channels and caused the pauses.

Ok, so I turned off the overscan thing for 1.2.1.3, and it actually encoded the video now. Except! It still does the skipping thing.
