I need a codec for MPEG4+H264 (not ffdshow)

Hi, Is there some standalone codec for MPEG4 and H.264 video for use with Media Player Classic? I simply don't want to install the ffdshow because I had plenty of problems with it in the past, and if I install it now, the rest of the codecs I have carefully installed and configured will surely go to hell, and I'll have to deal with the infinite settings of the ffdshow configs.

Currently, I can playback some MP4 videos created with AoA MP4 Converter, but not those encoded by QuickTime Player (I just get audio in this case)

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Try CoreAVC, but it's not free though:

You know you can easily configure ffdshow to only be used to decode one type of video/audio, and to be not used at all for all your other video/audio types.

do a goggle search. there's a couple of good FREE converters out there that can do the job or try this media-converter.com

VLC should be able to play your content with its internal routines

Mplayer. It uses libavcodec's H.264 decoder. Its the same decoder that's used in ffdshow for H.264 decoding.
