virtualdub error

I am using VirtualDub1.3c. I try to open a windows media movie and I get this error:

couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV2'

I can't find anything about this on the MS website. I have downloaded the codec update for media player. You guys know about this? Does my beloved VD really not support this? I have never seen it before.

So are there any third party editors around that can handle these files yet?

You can use WM8EUTIL and one of the attendant GUI's - downloadable from the DivX Digest site...

I believe that the VERY LATEST version of ASFTools can also handle WMV v.8 files...

has wm8 support
but the older players do not recognize the files.
you need to click view all when choosing for play back and pick the file and it will work.
