AVI played with DIVX player doesn't have picture (only sound)

I've download a AVI file and when I looked from Explorer Properties, it says MPEG Layer-3. But when I played using Windows Media Player (version 8.0) or DivX player (version 5.2), it doesn't have picture, only sound. Anyone know how to overcome this problem??

Try the DivX codec. If it does not work, you'll need to find what codec was used in the video.
    1. Open file in Virtualdub
    2. Go to File -> File Information
    3. Post the information you see here

It indicates that the movie was compressed using the DivX 5 codec and hence, installing it into your system should solve the problem.

Thanks again for your reply, unfortunately I've Codec 5.0 installed on my computer and when I looked at another AVI file (the one which can be played) on VirtualDub file information also says Codec 5.0.

Had the same problem a while ago

Used to play a kind of movies but suddenly I only had sound....
Did a few things and after that everything was ok again.

Haven't got a clue what excactely fixed thing but I

            Re-installed the codec
            Re-installed my player (BS-player)
            Restarted my PC

Had the problem with all my players and after above actions problem was gone with all players, so I don't think re-installing BS-player did the trick (or maybe it did.... )

Well...... maybe this reply was of some use.....
