DivX standalone players for the Home

    Hey peoples

Just wondering if they are going to release, or if they have released any players which play DivX onto home entertainment systems, much the same as a DVD player??

Forgive my ignorance if Iam a little slow or misinformed, but I dont follow these things that closely anymore... Im just wondering if my Divx collection will be limited to my Pc or can I just pop in a DivX encoded Cd in my favourite player (insert brand here) and sit back and relax??

Has anyone tried playing a DivX on a TV, whats the picture, sound quality like??

    Regards

Theoreticaly, there can be one tomorrow...
The real problem with those machines is that "DivX" isn't standard-ized at all.

DivX is just the name of a popular codec for video, as is HuffYuv, XviD, ...
What format is the audio in???? Most people use MPEG1layer3 (usualy INCORRECTLY reffered to as MPEG3 istead of the (correcy) MP3). But you can use AAC, AC3 or whatever...

The easyest (and IMHO best) way to make that stuff you're asking for is to make it yourself. Try to find a pretty looking Desktop-case, put in a descent MB+processor (at least 1.5GHz, for future codings). Make sure your video-card is capable of booting on the PAL out. Install a descent OS on it (Win will do.... but you might find something better). Also a cordless mouse+keyboard. and your set

By doing it this way, you can play the most amout of different file-formats, AND support new formats as they're getting popular.

You can even make a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) an do some time-shifting and stuff (you'll need a BIG HDD, at least 80GB)

    But, yes, a pre-made pretty-looking box is somewhat user-friendly.
