divx playing in Win Media Player 8 (XP)

I have tried everything to get my DivX files to work in Windows Media Player, yet to no avail. The movies play fine in the DivX Player that comes with version 5.xx, and I have tried to install/uninstall (repeatedly) the DivX codec, both 3.11a and 5.xx, and nothing has seemed to get it to work. I hear audio all right, but no video. Does anyone know what I can do? I tried the Tsunami program as well, but that didn't help either. Thanks.

Simply install the older, much more reliable Windows Media player v.6.4...
