grey screen, no video on all of my divxs

i have been downloading and watching divxs for over a year. today, i downloaded one with audio that didn't work. somebody suggested downloading "powerdivx nextgen" and installing that. i did, and now every single divx file comes up as just a grey screen. the audio works fine, but i can't get a picture. i uninstalled the program, then i uninstalled and reinstalled windows media player and all of my codecs, but i still am getting only a grey screen. PLEASE help me with this problem, i don't think i can survive without my divxs for long.

Have you checked the settings of the DivX codec while the movie is loaded under Win Media Player (s/b v.6.4 and NOT 7.xxx for proper playing of DivX v.3.11 videos). Right click in the Media Player window and select "Properties". Click on "Advanced". Doubleclick on the Divx Video codec. Try adjusting the various settings.

thank you very much, the problem is fixed now
everybody else's suggestions were to reinstall audio/video drivers, reload old registry, etc. etc. i didn't think it could be that simple. thanks tremendously for your help!
