THIS IS THE SECOND .AVI i CANT PLAY!!!

I am trying to view a divx file i down loaded with Xolox called "men in black 2 - english dvd-rip divx5.avi", which is 170MB. 20 users of Xolox have it in their copy directories so i dont think is a fake file. When i open it in Windows Media Player i only get weird, broken sound and no picture. Also ive tried 2 major divx players and both of them say they cant open or determine the format. The properties in WMP say that the file has an unknown video and audio format.

    CAN ANYONE HELP!

When WMP says the codec are unknow (you can verify with another tool like http://avicodec.duby.info/, it is in general a fake file ... Moreover a movie file size is in general around 650 - 700 Mb, and not 170 Mb

Well... he could have only a segment of the whole movie. Or maybe the runtime is that short and it has been brutally compressed. I mean, I have an entire movie that's about 300mb or so.

        1) You could have an incomplete download

        2) As previously mentioned, it could be a phony file

        3) Load the file into VirtualDub. From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information". Post here a screen captire of the "File Information" window. If you can't provide a screen capture, then post here EVERYTHING (video and audio information) that appears inb the "File Information" window.

Very nicely put. I don't think I could have come up with a better expression.

On the other hand, the filename indicates that it uses the DivX5 compression, so check that you have the codec installed in your system.
