    PC freezing

I have just installed the DivX codec 5.0.2 Bundle. When I click on a movie to view the PC locks up completely. I cannot do CRTL+ALT+DEL, I must do a complete shutdown. If I uninstall the Codec I can play some movies that are not encoded, but I do not get the issue with it locking up. I am running Window 2000 SP3, Media Player 6.4. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    thanks.

Install the latest drivers for your graphics card and motherboard, and install DirectX8.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

      Thanks, but......

Thanks for the advice, but the problem is still coming and going. Windows Service Pack 3 would have nothing to do with this, woulld it?

        No that is highly unlikely.

Most likely you system is becomeing unstable due to heat issues, make sure that all fans are working properly.

You could check your memory with a special program (such as DocMemory) to verify if some components are KO.
