    FAST Multimedia audio codec?

    Hi,

    Does anyone know where I might be able to find the FAST Multimedia AG DVM audio codec?

    I keep downloading files that use this compression, and I can never hear the audio track because Windows Media Player can't locate the codec anywhere.

    Help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Actually, that's simply .AC3 format. You can find .AC3 filters/codecs in many of the codec "packs" available by clicking on either the DivX Digest or DVD Digest link at the top of this page. Either install one of these or install a software DVD player, such as WinDVD or Power DVD.

    (Keep the Faith)

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      Thanks!

      I had the Nemo Pack installed, and I thought that had the AC3 codec in it. But regardless, I located another AC3 codec on the net, and now it works! Many thanks for your help!

          But...

          I now have a far more interesting problem... The movie files run at half speed...

          I have a PIII 667 with 512MB of RAM running WinXP. I've never had a problem with video speeds before...

          Any clues regarding what might cause this?

          Thanks again!

            Although almost anything can happen when you download, rather than create your own, files, do the following:

            1) Load the file into VirtualDub

            2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

            3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

            Also, when you say it's "running at half speed, are you referring to video, audio or both?

              The whole file runs at half speed, both video and audio. It's actually fairly amusing to hear the audio track slow down and warp that much...

              But anyways, I found out what's wrong... Or rather that there was nothing really wrong so much as the codec being very slow to load. I have to load up the file, let it autoplay, stop it, then wait 10 seconds and play again and the speed is fine after that.

              I guess the AC3 codec requires a lot of processing... Either that, or my computer doesn't like it...

              But thanks much for your replies! You've been very helpful.

                Once again, it's my pleasure - but what you've described is "out of the ordinary", to say the least ;>}

                Try installing the older, FAR more reliable v.6.4 of the Windows Media Player ("MPLAYER2.EXE" on your primary drive). Please post back here whether using this version obviates the slow start...
