            FOUND THE PROBLEM

I was on another forum board and this is the problem with 95% of the Lord of The Rings Divx. Most of them are fakes you can check if they are fakes in a program called 'irfanview'. I downloaded 7 'different' copies and i checked them and all were bad. theres at least one good copy floating around from what i ehard but most of them are fakes. the explanation about why they are fakes was in a long thread in that forum on www.divx.com

heres a copy from the forums posted by QBALLME

            Hi folks,

I notice a lot of you talking about having troubles viewing dloaded movies such as LOTR - Fellowship of the Rings and Harry Potter. And further, go one to note that you can't play them: the image and sound don't come in (a black screen).

This seems to be the case for many of the "NEW" movie releases (especially the highly publicized ones). Simply put these files are FAKES! One of the reasons why people do this is for ratio trading purposes on things like IRC. Because these files eventually spread (like a virus) onto places like KaZaA, people dloading them get confused and think that they are missing the proper codec. Of course, there is a possibility that you are indeed missing the proper codec to play the movie but if you have dloaded all the latest and greatest out there then be very suspect of such a file.

When you find files that do this the best thing to do is simply delete it and look for another file (different filename variaition). I notice that when a new movie is about to be released there are a flood of these fakes that are released. Usually waiting about 1-2 weeks after the movies release will give it time for people who have these fakes to "finally" check and realize they are fakes and remove them. The ones remaining are the REAL Camera caps of the movie. This is what happened with Harry Potter and Monsters Inc. for me (HP took 5 days to get after the release, and Monsters Inc. took 2 days).

As for Lord of The Rings. I have "partially" dloaded 27 different FAKES (so far) and have not seen a real thing yet!

Because these fakes are so large (hundreds of megs in size) here is a trick u can all use to determine a fake in as quick a time as possible (so u dont sit there waiting for a 200 meg - 600 meg file to dload).

            1. Download "Irfanview" (also get its plugin pack). Irfanview can play partial movie files. I notice that there are other players out there that can do this but i have found Irfanview to be the most reliable. This program also allows you to display "Video Information" about the movie file.

            2. What i like to do is dload like 400 KB - 1 MB worth of the movie from KaZaA (or equiv) and quickly copy its created KaZaA ".dat" file (this ".dat" file is KaZaA's representation of the movie file as it dloads).

            3. Rename this copied file to include a ".AVI" extension (assuming it is a .avi movie file)

            4. Run this ".AVI" file within Irfanview. Irfanview will display the movie if it exists. Here's where you see that black screen (if it is a fake).

            5. Go to Image->Information (found in its menu bar) to verify some of the details of this movie file. If this truly is a fake you will see such things as 1 bpp and decompression memory required equating to 0 MB.

This technique has saved me loads of time and i have been able to spot virtually any movie i have wanted (assuming it even exists).

            Enjoy

              Dont talk shit

I downloaded Lord 3days after it had premiered in the movies.. AND IT WAS THE MOVIE... Ad it works... So dont talk shit.. It works. Get the proper codecs before you start bitchin..

A friend of mine has windows 98 and he downloaded that prog and installed it.. He can see the movie just fine.. So i think its just a matter of knowing what you are doing.....

And 1 more very important thing.. All "serious" move trading channels on IRC is NONratio... So get your facts straight before you open yuor big mouth.. One probelm with people is that they offen dont download the whole file ant then say.. Ohh i can´t look at it... Get the whole file or shutup.
