Problem after installing ACE Mega Codecs

I had two trailers in DivX .AVI format that would only play video but no sound. I installed the latest ACE MegaCodecs Pack but then ran into problems.

The sound and video now plays BUT, the video in WMP is upside-down. In 'Playa' the video is OK.

I decided to remove some of the installed codecs to see if I could fix the video problem. If I go into Control Panel/Multimedia and click on 'Devices' the 'Multimedia Properties' applet closes instantly so I cannot list the codecs and therefore can't remove them.

When this problem occured I was using WMP 6.4 so I loaded 7.1 and followed this with DirectX 8.1 but neither of these has any effect.

I had downloaded the On2 VP3 codec and tested it by playing the test video on their site. Worked fine, but now it is also inverted. In fact anything played in WMP is upside down. Any help appreciated.

Ok, so I found the answer in two parts.

First the Ace Mega Pack installed DivXG400 but didn't add it to the list of installed programs in Control Panel. This would run each time WMP played a clip. The strange thing is, the video was flipped vertically when the 'Flipped' setting in DivXG400 was set to no flip. By setting 'Output' or 'Input' flipped, the video would play the correct way up. I am using an ATI video card, nothing special and that may have caused a problem.

I downloaded a separate version of DivXG400 from the home page, installed it properly and then I could remove it through the Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.

I could only access the 'Devices' in the Control Panel->Multimedia Properties applet by reinstalling Windows over the existing copy. After doing that, all was back to normal.
