How About an AVI Player for your DVD Player?

I just downloaded an AVI player to let me watch avi movies on my playstation 2.

Its just a little file that you burn on to the beginning of a cd, before the avi, and it takes up only a few kBytes of disc space.

What an excellent idea to be able to watch downloaded films without the need to first convert them to mpgs and then burn them as vcds.

Unfortunately playstation 2's are pretty expensive things ,containing lasers with finite lives (the life of which will be shortened drastically by making a habit of viewing films with them).

Now what would really be great would be a player that let me do the same thing but on a DVD player.

Is there such a piece of software?
If not, some bright spark ought to set about writing one.

Kiss Technology has a player put that is able to play DivX movies. But it only support 4.0 and 5.02 and upwards so any movie encoded with 3.11 will not work in it.

But heres th webadress for the player: http://www.kissnordic.dk/

you could reencode the movie in Vdub (http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/do...irtualdub.html) simply open the file and select "Video-->Compression" Select the DivX 5.02 codec and select the bitrate you want (700-800Kbp/s for one CD and 1200-1400 for two cd's) when this is done press "ok" and "ok" again then select "file-->Save avi" select a place for the file to be placed, wait a few hours depending on your machine, and burn it again, and the play it.

but this is not smartess way since the quality get messed up, perhaps you could change the header of the file. I Don't know, mayby some other member does, it would be a lot easier if you could.

No at present this is not possible, you have to reencode.

There have been some efforts towards developing a tool for a more direct conversion of divx3.11 files, but at the moment it does not look very promising.

I would like to know .. Does a reencodec movies from 3.11 to 5.02 .. gives a poor qualaty .. cant it convert it to same qualaty as the 3.11? ..

When the movie is loaded just press forward one frame (In the bottom of VDub) >> and then press "Home" on your keyboard, move to the end of the movie and press "End" on the keyboard. Then you can reencode without the first frame
