Movie plays in Virtualdub, but in no player

I know this kind of question gets answered all the time, but here my problem:

The movie will play in Virtualdub without any error, but WMP tires to d/l a codec and fails, divx player fails, zoom player fails, micro dvd player fails to play the file with sound AND image. I only get sound as if the codec was'nt installed. I reinstalled 3.11a, I tried removing 5.01 and then putting 3.11a back on, none of it worked...

The information indicates that the file should most certainly play correctly, if you've properly installed the DivX v.3.11alpha codec.

Try this simple experiment:

1) Load the file into VirtualDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"
3) Save with a new filename
4) Try to play in Windows Media Player

Strange enough, that seems to work ( only tried it with the first few seconds... )

Do I have to copy the whole movie then, or is there an easier way to fix the whole file ?

And, by the way, any clue what has happened there ?

same problem

I have the same problem, video plays in VirtualDub, but no other players. Solution to change video an audio to direct stream copy didnt work. Also if change direct stream copy, preview in VirtualDub is unavailable. Any suggestions?
