playback partial downloads

Hopefully someone can help.
I've tried to playback partially downloaded divx files through divfix following the instructions posted previously and don't seem to be having any luck.
open file
strip index
rebuild index
When i open the file through a media player/divx player or pdvd player i get an unsupported dat file error.
if anyone knows the correct way to playback i would be greatfull.

Just open the file in DivFiX and click "rebuild index", then when youre done checking it you can strip the index so its back how it was before.

ive closed imesh backed up the file and tried as suggested but i still cant open the partially downloaded file.
all im trying to do is check if im downloading what i want and not just a renamed film which is becoming more frequent.
and frustrating

Try getting another version of divfix. And also, are you renaming the file to .avi or .divx?
