Trying to play an XVID but no sound, might have some codecs messed up

I'm trying to play a XviD .avi file.
Even tho gspot21 says I've got the codec, I get no sound..
I've had these problems b4, of getting no sound with some video files..
mp3 and regular videos have sound just fine.
I'm trying to play it from a cd, even tho I don't have the cable directly from the cd-rom driver connected to the sound card, that has never had any influence on anything before as I was always able to play music cds etc.

here is a screenshot of gspot21

    Help??

PS: tried to play it on both windows media player and radlight, even tried messing with the filters option on radlight , and nothing.

You've posted the wrong information from VirtualDub:

        1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub or NanDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Although I'm not personally familiar with the XviD codec, I believe you've got a phony file - as I've never seen a real file with EVERY frame a keyframe and NO delta frames...

Are you saying that you have no audio - but CAN view the video?

The audio is nothing out of the ordinary - it's a Variable Bitrate .MP3 audiostream, which any .MP3 codec should be able to handle.

If there is video, I'd suggest that you experiment as follows:
              1) Load the file into VirtualDub or NanDub
              2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"
              3) Set "Video" to "Full Processing Mode"
              4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose the XviD codec
              5) Set the Xvid codec's keyframe rate to "1 every 10 seconds". Set all other settings for the codec to, as best you can, duplicate those of the original file
              6) Save with a new filename

(If, in fact, there's also no video, I would reiterate my speculation that it's a fake file.)

If you've carefully followed the procedure I've detailed, you might "get lucky" with the resultant file - which should have only 1 keyframe every 10 seconds.

                      Let us know of your success ;>}

(There's no point in posting until you've seen the final results of the modified file...)

                        Ok it's done.
I got some kind of error @ 96% but the file came thru with no sound.

now this is kind of weird, have a look.
im gonna play this cd on my sis notebook to see if I get any sound.

I have the same problem. I have installed several codecs and used different players. Results have been always the same: no sound. If I unistall a codec the player complains that I don't have the right codec to play the sound but when installed the codec seems to work. But no sound.

I have a terratec sixpack 5.1 soundcard. I suspect that the soundcard is the problem because it didn't play xvid/divx sounds on my last computer eighter. I'll try to play the files with the integrated soundcard on my motherboard. I bet that my problem with the sound will be solved by that.

If you're referring to the audio "sample precision 0 bit", that's nothing out of the ordinary.

Are you able to get sound output from another .AVI presently?

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently turned off either your speakers or your PC's WAV audio?

I just noticed (shame on me) what you stated in your initial post:

"I'm trying to play it from a cd, even tho I don't have the cable directly from the cd-rom driver connected to the sound card"

Copy the .AVI to your hard drive. Does it play with audio from the hard drive?

im gonna try copying it down to the HD, I had thought of that before, but I dont think its gonna solve.
