oh yea and I can play any other .avi file with sound fine.
Trying to play an XVID but no sound, might have some codecs messed up

That leaves just one more thing that I can think of:
If you have the GoldWave audio editor (or similar) available, open GoldWave and then "drag and drop" the .AVI file onto the main Goldwave window. The audiostream should be automatically extracted. After it's been extracted, you should see two colorful oscilloscope waves. If you don't see such waves, the audiostream is probably blank.
Try playing the audiostream from within Goldwave. If it plays, stop it and then save it as Uncompressed PCM (.WAV). Assuming this was the case (that you've now got a good .WAV audio file), do the following:
1) Open VirtualDub
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Set "Audio" to "No Audio"
4) Load the original .AVI
5) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "WAV audio"
6) Load your recently created .WAV audio file
7) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
8) From under the "Audio" dropdown menu select "Conversion" - and set to 44,100Hz
9) From under the "Audio" dropdown menu select "Compression" -
and select any of the MPEG1-Layer3 (.MP3) sampling rates listed as 44,100Hz
10) Save with a new filename
11) Cross your fingers ;>}Comment

XviD, no sound
Try going to this address and downloading this codec : it worked for me for WMP 7, so I'm assuming it'll work for the other versions; http://www.dawnload.net/video_softwa...lters/xvid.cfm It's a codec developed by Koepi and for me, so far so good. As far as the issue with uninstalling WMP9 is concerned, if you have Windows ME or XP installed, there is NO uninstall for it, or at least I haven't been able to find one. It installs itself so deep into your system...as a matter of fact, I've read where the geniuses at Microsoft designed it to be an intergral part of those operating systems and subsequently, made no provisions for an uninstall. I was so desperate to remove it I re-installed my operating system to get rid of it!!! I've also read that you can also use System Restore, but is that a good alternative to an uninstall?Last edited by pythonmaxspliv; 3 Feb 2003, 08:58 AM.Comment

I guess I might be in luck
I uninstalled NIMO and then uninstalled the Xvid from Xvid.net (Nic), then I think I installed either NIMO or Xvid and uninstalled it again.. well, I dunno which one, but it did not uninstall correctly, so the codec stayed and the sound worked.
Now I installed NIMO build 8 with every mplayer and ac3 codec in there.. now have a look what gspot says.
and compare it to the first gspot shot (on the first post).Attached FilesComment

Okay, when you installed the codec I referred you to did you try to play the file in WMP? 'Cause that's the media player I found it to work with.Last edited by pythonmaxspliv; 3 Feb 2003, 11:33 AM.Comment

I tried it with either wmp and radlight.. with that installing/uninstalling mess, radlight decided to not work anymore and to crash everytime I played the movie, since I HAD uninstalled the xvid codec but it didnt go away.. anyway so since then sound started to work with wmp and I downloaded subviewer which is great..
I guess there was some codec/registry mess I somehow fixed.
dunno
I also updated the mgplayer-3 from nimo codec so maybe that was needed to work with xvid, dunno.Comment

I have no idea.
I screwed it back again.
It experienced some flickering or whatever then tried updating only the xvid, and now it's back to gspot screenshot number 1..
there's something wrong with avi splitter not being able to reender the directshow audio or sumfin..
what was the other diagnosis software other than gspot?Comment

see the pic.
when it detected like the pic above, the sound worked..
the problem is avi splitter does not render it correctly it seems, even tho gspot says so.
I need to have mpeg layer-3 decoder render it for xvid..
even tho the decoder is installed, I dunno how to make it reender it instead of the avi splitter.Attached FilesComment

Is the above quote your answer to me asking how you obtained audio?
Because if it is, I don't have a clue as to what you are trying to say!
Oh well...Comment

yea like I said, I uninstalled nIMO, xvid then installed nimo then uninstalled then the sound worked, then I installed nimo with no xvid but a couple of audio and directshow fiters, installed most of them actually.. even tho I had uninstalled the xvid, it did not uninstall, it stayed on the system..
then I watched the movie
but I thought it was quite unstable
so I tried updating only the xvid from the koepi guy version.
and now back to no sound.
I need to figure this out since I'll probably have this problem again.
the 2 gspot's screenshots shows that the audio will work once rendered by the mpeg-3 layer decoder and not the damn avi splitter.
also already tried xvid/nimo installing and uninstalling and can't get it to work.Comment
