what is bothering me more now is that I opened up virtualdub and it says franunhofer, divx low/fast and windows media decoder are not actually codecs, but hacks that are known to conflit with other codecs..

this is why I asked u which codecs I should've installed from tsunami in the first place..

the only software I have that requires it's own codecs I guess is windows media player.

I registered on DOOM9 but it says I can only post after 5 days..
      I registered yesterday, I believe.

I have no idea which codes or filters I might need but if I'm not mistaken, those should be it:

      DivX
      Xvid
      ac3
      mpeg3
      voxsub (for subtitling with vcd)

but there are a whole bunch of them to install and lots of decoders like intervideo audio decoder, cyberlink decoder, and mpeg splitters and a whole bunch of stuff.

tsunami pack seems to be the most complete pack of all, I just dunno what to install and what-not.

btw, not all video/audio codecs or filters show up on device manager...
only codec-sniper sees them all ( A tools that came with tsunami)..

I'm planning on formatting tomorrow so I'll guess I'll have to see carefully which codecs to install.
