Xvid Problems for the EXPERTS

Ok from my tests what I found out so far is that
I can only get a xvid movie to work if I uninstall everything (xvid, nimo, tsunami, divx total pack, whatever codec related pack which messes with xvid/mpeg-3 I have here) and then after a couple of registry cleaners and a couple of reboots, I can get the mpeg layer-3 codec to finally show up.
Then I install xvid with no rebooting, and then video will work.
(xvid+mpeg3)

Once I reboot, back to zero..

(xvid won't find the audio codec as mpeg layer-3, it finds avi splitter instead and I get no audio, just video).

Ok this is how it looks like when no xvid codec is installed:
(no-codecs.JPG attached on msg).

Then, when I install xvid, since mpeg-3 was already working, xvid will work along with it and I can play some videos:

(when xvid can't find a mpeg3 codec, even tho there is a bunch of them) -> gspot1


the mpeg-3 codec will only work with xvid (or the other way around ) when I uninstall everything, clean registry, reboot, then mpeg-3 will show up and then I can install xvid and make them work together THAT IS until I reboot and we're back gspot1 pic..

(just trying to make sure I get the point straight)

P.S: nevermind the '-> GX400' on one of the SS, it was just cause I installed xvid from divx total pack and on the other SS I installed it solo from Koepi's version. It doesn't make a difference.

Here's the way I configure my codec settings (which work perfectly fine on my 3 systems):
1. Install Tsunami codec pack 3.9.7 (3.9.6 works well too). I select the codecs, DS filters and tools that I want installed.
2. I regularly download and install Koepi's/Nic's latest XviD Build (I don't use the one in codec packs since the XviD builds get updated very regularly and hence should be separate from codec packs).
3. I install the latest FFDShow (Alpha) and configure it to play XviD-compressed AVIs.

Give it a try and see whether it solves your problem.

I hardly think that's gonna solve..
I already tried most combinations of packs , I did try ffshow but wasn't quite able to configure it.

Simply go to the Configuration window and check the FOURCC types that you want FFDShow to handle. In your case, it would be XVID.

In addition, go to the Post-processing section and configure as you desire.

The rest is for you to discover at your own pace.

the codecs here have will of their own, they are alive and only work whenever they want..
anyway I will try what u suggested me and will post l8er, tomorrow prolly.. after that I think i'll format.
I have a lot of sh1t to get rid of and I also need to merge 2 partitions, and I just upgraded my cpu to a different type, it's always good to format when u change major hardware anyway.

I wish there was like a major codec uninstaller, so I could uninstall all of them and install only the necessary codecs over again.

I don't know, guys, but I didn't have NEARLY as many problems as you all seem to be having, so I'm gonna tell you EXACYLY what I did.

1) Opened WMP.

2)Went to the "Help" drop-down list and did an upgrade

3)Installed 3 codec.exe's; Divx codec 3.11 alpha.zip, XviD_Install, and XviD-04102002-1 (sorry, I can't remember where I found them, but I'm sure you all know how to find stuff: in a word, Google.)

4)Restarted my computer.

5)Played the file in WMP.

I noticed that many of you are having problems playing an XviD file, "8 Mile." Well I downloaded it last night, and it played magnificently.
Now here's some info that I at first thought wasn't important, but now I think it may be pertinent; I'm running Windows Me, WMP 7, and I don't have any other multimedia players on my system (unless you count MusicMatch and Winamp as multimedia.)

well, I'm on windowsXP pro SP1, and someone said wmp is like bult-in, integrated into the system, u can never uninstall it.
anyway, enchanter, which codecs should I install from tsunami (only necessary codecs and codecs that will not conflict with others that u know for sure)...

I uninstalled everything and already got the codec to show up and then disappear again (mpeg-3)..
the weirdest thing happened, I tried to play an mp3 on wmp9 today and it had to download a codec to be able to play, that's when mpeg-3 showed up on gspot..now it's gone again..

Install any codecs that you want installed from the Tsunami (that includes the XviD and FFDShow). Normally, you wouldn't have any problems. Should you have problems, remove the XviD and FFDShow filters and install more updated versions manually.

Here's what I suggest you do in steps.
1. Install Koepi's latest Unstable XviD build, which includes a relatively bug-free plain vanilla decoder (which has not given me any problems on a number of my systems)
2. Whether you got XviD playback working or not (I normally would say, when you got it working already, but you are a different case), install the latest FFDShow (the alpha version worked well enough for me). Configure it to play XviD contents and nothing else.

I will assume that you have removed all other codecs residing on your system prior to installing Tsunami.

yea I uninstalled everything except the codecs wmp9 downloads and the codecs that I might have installed but there are no uninstallation procedures..

No.

Install the Tsunami filter WITHOUT the XviD codec and FFDShow. Download and install the latest version of these two separately.

Preferably, though you will probably be alright even without rebooting.
