    quote: No.

Install the Tsunami filter WITHOUT the XviD codec and FFDShow. Download and install the latest version of these two separately.
LoL, insn't that what I just said?

ok so I should install tsunami with No xvid Or ffdshow and then install xvid and ffshow separately?

      Ah, sorry 'bout that.

I tend to read rather too quickly.

        Enchanter:

        1. Installed tsunami with all the codecs that come marked (with the exception of the interview audio decoder)
        2¹. Reboot -> Clean Registry
        2.² Installed XviD (latest unstable)
        3¹. Reboot -> Clean Registry
        3². Installed ffdshow (latest alpha)
        4¹. Reboot -> Clean Registry
        4². Reboot

Now this is what I get
2 screeenshots (one here, the other on next message)

so what happens is xvid will work with most audio codecs, but something is messed up that makes it not work along with mpeg-3 ...

I dunno, someone said that xvid sometimes is not able to find de mpeg-3 decoder to work with.

I dunno wtf is up with this.
but well at least I can watch star wars yay lol

            a diff movie, but
            once again
            xvid + mpeg-3 = no go.

Lol, I didn't do anything I swear, just cleaned registry and played a couple of mp3s (I'm always cleaning registry dunno if that's fixing anything)..
                and now,
                xvid + mpeg3 works.
this will only last till the next reboot
I still got a problem tho
at least this time it worked with everything installed plus reboot, even if after I cleaned registry / played some mp3.

So now I know that if I reboot, wait a while, clean registry, play some mp3 (winamp and wmp), it MIGHT work.. but lol
                what a hassle

                  this is SO WEIRD.
I just realized that when I'm playing an mp3 or (I think) have an application opened that uses the mp3 decoder, gspot detects the mpeg3 decoder.. if not, it doesn't.. I just tried this now
I was on mirc, with a mp3 addon.
SO I was playing the song, and ran gpost.. detected the movie xvid+mpeg3 ...
When I stopped the mp3.. did not detect..
                  this is weird, isn't it?
cause if gspoit does not detect it, the movie really will not work, I tried this already a thousand of times.

I Know I'm on a monologue here, but I keep finding weirder stuff.
If I play mp3 on winamp or wmp, I think they 'hold on' to the codec, not letting others... so gspot won't detect the mpeg3 codec untill those programs have gone away.
Then maybe cleaning the registry 'releases' them? dunno.
but when I play mp3 on mirc's addon, I guess mirc uses the mpeg3 codec but it doesn't hang on to it (not leaving other software to use it or whatever), so xvid is able to use it , hence being able to detect it.

lol this is too much, for real.

The Tsunami pack contains updated MP3 decoder from FhG (version 1.9. I'm not aware of what version the latest DS filter currently is though). You might want to give it a try.

                        er I'm not sure.
I know NIMO has a bunch of codecs in it.
I can now play any movie with mpeg3 audio but still I have to be playing an mp3 on mIRC so the movie will work, this is totally bizarre.
It's an mpeg3 issue, xvid works fine.

I did install tsunami tho with all codecs but the intervideo, was the first thing I installed.

Ok I installed tsunami pack full, it comes with a bunch of stuff and all the major codecs, I didn't install the ones I didn't find necessary but installed most of them (audio), and did not install the xvid codec or filter that came with it (old versions).

what bothers me is that after I installed it, windows xp prompted for service pack1, saying some original files have been replaced and that it might cause system instability.
Well I'm not rebotting the computer till like 8 more hours or so, so I dunno what this is affecting or not.

oh yea and this changed nothing (still) about my problem.

I never complied with it asking to insert the CD, and it never affected my systems in any negative way.

This really bothers me. Do you happen to be using any program whose installation involves installations of its own codecs? Check that you are not using more than one version of MP3 codec as well. You can find out from under the Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> Audio codec (Properties tab).

xvid is known to have playback problems,
                                not on all configuration,
                                but many different problems,
that should be solved on the developers side.

you can find both actual compilers,Nic & Koepi, on the Doom board,
go and ask to Koepi then...
