I have read all about Xvid Problems......

But still any combination of installing codecs don't work or may works for others...
seems that any computer has a different problem.

What is the reason for green screen?
What is FFDSHOW and what is his function in general?

I have 8 mile and it played just fine but I also have Red Dragon of dcn and the picture look a pretty well but still can be seen that the ficture is smearing in the background and in the peoples faces.
I tried every Xvid that exist (both stable and unstable of Nic and Kopie) and found that the best result are given from the Kopie's latest binary.

*I have seperatly divx 3.11, 5.02, Xvid of Kopie, ac3Filter_b3.
(No FFDSHOW Installed)

*When I installed FFDSHOW and set it to support Xvid and other codecs the picture from Red Dragon did'nt Change at all !!!

AFAIK this happens when you use older version of the decoder on newer files.

It's a playback filter. All players (Except the divx player) rely on DirectShow playback filters. When a file is loaded into the player, the player checks the fourc code, and looks for an installed filter that is compatiple with that code. The FFDShow filter has easy to use interface for changeing the list of fourc codes, it will accept. FFDShow should be compatible with most divx and Xvid files, but newer xvid files might cause problems.

Quality issues like that, are usually not caused by the decoder or player, and very little can be done to reduce the problem.

Install it.

Go to the StartMenu->Programs->ffdshow->configuration

Or run the command C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe ffdshow.ax,configure

Easy fix for Xvid Green Screen w/Blocks or Playing Well w/ no audio

Many people seem to be having this same problem as I once did:

Green screen in Windows Media Player with scattered weird blocks.

Often if you fix this problem you get no audio. Here is an easy way to have both high quality Xvid video and audio (wow! what a concept)

If you have Nimo codec pack installed, uninstall it completely, as well as any other divx/xvid codecs listed in Add/Remove programs. I am not saying Nimo is crap, but it screwed up my computer. I am sure there are very good codecs included in the pack, but it seems unstable.

Download and install the 3ivx codec from http://www.3ivx.com/download/index.html . I have found that their website is down sometimes, so if you get an error, just try them again a little while later.

Now you should have video.

If you still don't have audio go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/ , click on Download and download the exe version of the latest build (should be the top one). When you install this AC3 audio decoder, your audio should work.

Some files, however use Ogg Vorbis encoding for the audio, in that case install the Ogg decoder from http://www.divx-ac3.com/ .

At least all of this fixed it on my WinXP machine.

Also, if this message helps you fix the problem, please cut and paste this fix to every message board you know of where people are having this problem. Maybe we can put an end to it once and for all.
