colors do not refresh when scene changes

    Hello all!
I'm having a strange problem. On a couple of movies I've "gotten" lately the screen doesn't seem to refresh properly. Damn this is difficult to explain.... It's as if the colors from the previous scene linger. For example: In the movie you're watching, the current scene is a close-up of a sign or something, then they cut to a guy talking... well you see the outline of the guy's face moving in time but the image (or colors) of the sign or whatever are still on the screen. Like if he has a tatoo of the sign on his face. The image seems to correct itself as motion on screen increases (as more "video blocks" are refreshed).

Other files (encoded with various codecs) play fine. Is this just a corrupt file?

I'm using WMP 9 (happend on 8 too) for playback and nimo 50 build 8 codec pack.

    Thanks!

Use BSPLAYER or WMP 6.4 for playback.

Uninstall the NIMO codec pack, opting for the TSUNAMI Codec pack (conducting a custom installation and installing only the codecs you need).

Thanks for the opinion but 3 instances of the problem in the past oh.... hundreds! of movies is not going to make me change my whole set-up. I've used WMP since before 6.4 and the nimo codec pack through at least 3 releases. If I continue to experience the problem with other files in the future I will keep your advice in mind. I ask again: could this be a bad rip or corrupt file?
      Thanks again for your response.

My advice is based on the fact that hundreds of users have problems with the NIMO codec pack and WMP 9. Uninstalling NIMO and reverting to wmp 6.4 has helped solve many of these problems, so in my opinion, it is worth a try. Ultimately, the choice is yours.

I cannot discount the possibility that it is a "Bad" rip.

ok ok..... I ran into the problem again. Seems to be isolated to XVID coded movies. I'm going to try the TSUNAMI codec pack and see what happens, but I love my WMP 9 and I'm keeping it until all else fails.
            Thanks for the advice batman.

Oh and chickeneater, I did have the filter running but thanks anyway.

Have you just, for the heck of it, tried another player like wmp 6.4 or BSPLAYER?

Well if you must keep wmp 9 at all costs (though I believe there are other, more versatile media players out there) then try this last ditch alternative:

i have the same problem, just tried BSplayer: didnt work.
i must point out that i too have the nimo codec pack, and i use WMP 8

i dont think its a corrupt file btw... alll the xvid files seem to have the problem...

As I implied earlier, uninstall NIMO. Then install the xvid codec seperatley. If that doesn't work then try FFDSHOW for xvid playback.

Should even that fail to work, try the "last ditch effort" scheme which I refered to earlier in this post.

what should i do to replace nimo? cuz like all my other movies work since nimo...

after searching i found you said "using the avi4cc changer to change the fourcc codec used/description to dx50"

so there like one question left: how?
which can be split up in
-where can i find this avi4cc changer?
                    -how do i use it?

edit: found it all out... it works! wheee! tnx!

switching to the tsunami pack fixed my problem. (still using WMP9)
                      Thanks for the info!

I have the exact same problem as described above; the colours of _any_ xvid movie played don't seem to "refresh" properly.

However, i am not using nimo's codecspack, but ace's. I'm using zoomplayer for playback, but the problem seems to occur with any player i've tested sofar.

I have tried ffdshow filter or applying the avi4cc changer, but noone helped.

I have also tried uninstalling ace's codecpack, but then XP gives me the message "installation failed". Installing Tsunami's pack additionally didn't help either.

So before i go and completely reinstall XP, is there anything else i could try?

By the way, the "funny" thing is, when i view the x-vid's on my pc monitor they're fine. This problem only shows when watching it on my widescreen TV (using a G450 dualhead).
Besides that i'm using XP, SP1.

it's probably the fault of the matrox video card... i have one too, but changing with avi4cc worked for me. i dont think reinstalling windows will solve the problem btw...

Hey, if that worked for you it should work for me too, right? You just load the movie and then apply used description/used codec, right? It's weird, it does work, the codec gets changed when i view the applied movie, but there's no change when viewing on tv.

By the way, when i use avi4cc from the drop down menu i don't get dx50 (or div5), nonetheless it works when applying. I tried different codecs, like mpg43, div4, etc, but noone seem to have an effect on the movie.

I doubt it's the videocard though, since these other ppl had the exact same problem caused by nimo pack. So it sounds like a matter of "settings" to me, but of course i'm not sure.

                            I'll go and bug Matrox.

Ps. I opted for reinstalling Win so i can get rid of the Ace's pack.

Pps. I just found out the following: not all xvid's have this problem, some display fine on my tv. The ones which were fine were using the MP3 codec instead of intervideo audio codec. But i doubt it's that, they also differed in Video bitrate, and i think that might be the cause.
