Playing DiwX AVIs on Mac (pre OSX)

I'm having difficulty playing any long-format AVI on my Mac. I have downloaded the DivX code, but the downloads just load, and I never get any video. Any basic advice out there for me. I am running on a first generation iMac, using OX 9.2 with Internet Explorer 5.1 for the Mac. HELP!

What are your system specs?

I believe you've got to run a program called "DivXDoctor"...
