    just a quick question..

I'm on an old Dell CPi pII 266mhz 128mb ram laptop running Win2k and I wanted to bring it on a trip with me so I can check out a movie while I'm away. I installed the Xvid codec from the ffdshow-20030103.exe and I also installed the mp3 and ac3 codecs. When I tried to watch a movie of mine, the sound and video are ok except for the fact that the sound is about 2 seconds late.. on my PC upstairs the movie is in sync. Now my desktop upstairs is much faster and has more ram and a better vid card.. so I'm guessing there's not much I can do about it and that the problem is the laptop.. but I was just curious if anybody could tell me something more promising.

    Thanks for any ideas,
    Andy

**update: I uninstalled all ffdshow codecs and audio codecs then installed tsunami_filter_pack_3_3_9, no luck.

First of all I would try another file and see if the problem is still there.

DivX/Xvid files play best when using a :

    800 MHZ
    128 Ram
    64MB Video Card
A hard drive that reads files pretty quickly

        1) Lower your laptop's DESKTOP resolution (perhaps to 640x480)

        2) Lower your laptop's DESKTOP colordepth (perhaps to 256 colors)

        3) Shutdown any unnecessary programs running in the background
