    green stuff on the picture?

    hi,

hopefully this wasn't a much discussed topic.

i have 3 xvid movies, one of which plays as a charm, and two of which have very green stuff overlaying the pic making everything unviewable. the green stuff is not stationary, it moves as movie goes on. (occasionally the pic clears up for a split second. i'm guessing that's at keyframes.)

did anyone ever encounter something like this? any idea how to solve it?
i'll add more details if you need them.

i use windows XP and bsplayer and WMP. i tried playing with codecs, last one which i installed was XviD.Alpha.XOE 29.03.2003 (1220), and before that i had XviD.Root 24.02.2003 (1100).
i tried installing nimo codec pack but nothing worked after it so i had to uninstall it.
i also tried something very naive, and that was turning off video acceleration in windows.

    thanks in advance!

    solved

i solved the problem by deinstalling every single divx/xvid codec i had and installing latest tsunami mini pack.
hopefully the rest of my movies will still work as well when i try them.
now the picture is clear and sharp.. and not green

still, anyone has idea on what was happening? before i got desperate and deinstalled everything, no xvid movies worked like they should, not even the one that was okay.

I had the same problem with 2 files and I was able to use VituralDub to fix it. Open VituralDub, hit F1 (help), select "Using VituralDud" then "How Do I...", then "repair a bad video file?" Follow the instructions you see.

          it worked for me..

i deinstalled all xvid/divx codecs before i've installed tsunami pack. have you tried doing that?
i restarted my system after every (de)installation.

btw, now MPEG-1 encoded stuff doesn't play any longer

with advice of more experienced user, i removed all divx/xvid codecs once again, rebooted and replaced them with 3ivX from tsunami full pack. now everything plays fine, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 and everything!

so anyone having problems, maybe you can try doing the same, it can't hurt.

i installed the tsunami pack with only the 3ivx codec. after that a message saying that some changes were made to my system registry... i suppose it doesn't affect any program on my pc right?
oh ya.. the playback was fine except that it was a lil' jerky... how do i fix that?

                    Fixed

play a movie using windows media player... then while its playing find out exactly what codec is being used to play the xvid video.

if it says ffdshow.... then search for ffdshow.ax file on your computer and delete it... after a month of research... microsoft tells me windows media player has a serious conflict with just that file... and since windows media player is the root of all players it will affect all players... try that out... i fixed 7 friends computers doing just this simple bug fix !
