ClassFactory cannot supply requested class (Error=80040111)

    hi
I try to open and .avi file downloaded from the net
I get that bloody message, neither video nor sound
    do u know my problem?

I need a codec I don't have or is it a corrupted file (as I suppose)?
In case, is there an utility to repair my file??

    thanks you all guys

I had this error not that long ago myself. Unfortunately, I don't remember how I solved it.

However, I 'think' my problem was with DiVX 5.03 Codec. I dropped back to 5.02 and had no more issues.

To further add to this since I've just encountered it again and I know why I'm getting it.

Either the audio or video codec for your file is missing. I'd recommend downloading G-Spot utility as listed in the 'Read this first' thread. This way you'll know exactly what's missing and can install the appropriate driver.

I've run into the same problem, but with .mid files. Open them with Quick Time and they should run.

GSpot also correctly ID'd the files as Quick Time .mov/.qt files even though they were midi files.
