    Strangely split avi joining

I am downloading a multiple part avi that is split into parts like this:

    file.avi.divx.001
    file.avi.divx.002

    and so on to 33.

I can play the "001" file with anything that plays avi's, but when i try to play any of the rest of the numbers, I get various messages saying basically that it's not an avi file. Has anyone else come across this kind of split movie? I've tried playing them with Windows Media Player, RealOne Player, and AVIPreview by AJ. I tried DivFix, but that says it's not an avi file. I also tried joining these files with Peck's Power Join and Easy Video Joiner. WinRar didn't recognize the files either. I have only downloaded 5 of the 33 files, and I needed to know if there was any point in downloading the rest of them. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

i guess first file has the index so the media players are able to open it up.
as for the rest change them to file02.avi and so on, as the extension is causing problems. secondly you can try joining em all together by virtualdub, if the helps..

i used to encounter things like this when i was into newsgroups and stuff
