Oh, onboard sound. Maybe that's the problem. Lot of my friends had problems with onboard-sound and videos. Most of them bought a cheap soundblaster or terratec.

As I already toled, it looks like a problem with the sound-chip and temperature or power-supply. Maybe the power-supply is to weak or the temperature near the sound-chip gets to high. Simply test it with a new soundcard...

I talked to a friend who got the same computer with the same parts for the same price (He bought it at the same place)
and he got no problems with his movies. If it is a temprature problem then he would have it too cause he have the same fan (it sounds like an airplane when the computer is on )....

Well....I'll test with a new soundcard but I don't think it gonna work

              aaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I test with a new soundcard I need to tell you about another problem that just showed up....

It is that when I play the movies the computer reboots!
The screen simply becomes blank then the computer reboots!

              What does THAT mean?

I don't know if I hate my computer or if i'm just really desperate. Both I think

ok ok.. this is simple. too much on soundcard = problem. I get it with half life.... shouldnt be too hard.. try setting windows to use no sounds.. also use default windows theme (gray and teal) themes have a habit of f*cking things up.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I really do need a new soundcard. The problem is that I got no money so it'll take a while before I do

I know I'm gonna regret saying this, but it is proven that windows ME handles multimedia better than windows 98 or 95 does.. I know I can't run atiTV and winamp at the same time in win98, but I can in ME.. have you thought about the OS you run?

It is win98. Isn't that the most common OS used? And i'm NOT gonna change to WinME! I hate that OS!
I think i'll start with the soundcard and, if that doesn't work i'll try another OS but NOT winME!

Thanks for the help! I'll be back if this does not solve the problem...

I use windows ME.. it's great.. well.. considering windows 2000 hates my radeon, and winXP doesn't have proper driver support (yes I've seen ati released them.. and I've also tried them.. so I stand by my word here). Windows ME looks like win2k, less space better for divx, and openGL support is great. plus it works equally well on an AMD chipset.

so before you get all hot and bothered about what people think about an OS- try it for yourself. you may be surprised.

                          Ok, Ok!
I tried WinME at another computer and it really screwed up....I couldn't have higher resoluton than 640x320. But come to think about it....alot of things are different with my new computer so...
I'll lay down my hate and see if ME works better.
If it does, i'll spam this thread with thanks!

Thank you but I already got a cdkey

Anyway...I tested winME and the only difference with my movie is is that an error message appear when the movie starts to play
The error message is that the screen turns blue and the text "an error has occured. Press enter to return to windows and blah blah blah" Is shown.
Now I'll test with another soundcard....do you think it's gonna work?

did you deleted your w98 or installed winme over it?
if you installed winme over w98 the problem probably remained.
