    Strange A/V Sync Problem

This may be a stupid question, but I'm fairly new.

    I downloaded a video and:

-In Windows Media Player the sound is fine, but the video freezes every couple seconds so it is like watching a series of still images strung together.

-In VirtualDub (which I know nothing about) the video is fine, but the sound is stuttered in the same manner that the video stutters in Media Player.

If I extract the sound in VirtualDub to .wav it sounds normal in Media Player.

    What do I do??

**Sorry, I accidentally posted this in Software originally.

You didn't tell very much about your computer. Maybe the computer/hdd/vga is too slow, your soundcard is too old...

It is entirely possible that my computer is too slow. Please check this thread later, when I'm at home I will post my comp's specs. Thanks for the reply!

        OK, here my specs:

        OS: Win 98 SE

Processor: Pentium MMX (I think 266 MHz)

        RAM: 32 MB

VGA Card: YAMAHA OPL3-SAx WDM (I believe this is my card, it was under Sound, video and game controllers in the Device Manager. I'm sure it's pretty low grade.)

You can see I don't know a lot about this. I usually just watch videos rather than editing them.

The one thing that makes me think this is not a speed/memory problem is that the choppiness is a definite pattern, rather than random freezing.

        Hope someone can help. Thanx.

"Processor: Pentium MMX (I think 266 MHz)

This is your problem. This configuration is barely sufficient to run Win98, let alone an overhead intensive video.

Would additional RAM help, or is this most likely a processor problem?
