ASF to Mpeg

Does the process for converting asf to mpeg take long on the tmpeg? I was wondering if it would take just as long as a normal rip being encoded into divx. If it does take hours like that, is there anything else I could use for this type of conversion?

I also wanted to know if anyone knew of something that would combine multiple asf and wmv files into one.
