AVI(DivX) to DVD(mpeg2) problem

hi to experts out there......

I wanted to convert a 1.5GB AVI (Divx ;-] Low Motion) to NTSC DVD mpeg2 format. I tried TMPGENC, Ulead Videostudio, Aare, Procoder, WinMPG,.....but all crashed my system during 1 to 10 mins of the conversion.

AVI in 640x480
DVD in 720x480

Im using AMD Athlon XP2200, SBLive, DirectX9, Geforce4 Ti4200, and Windows XP Professional.

Any suggestions......?

Do you mean that literally (as in "Blue Screen of Death" or a total lockup, forcing you to reboot) - or did TMPGEnc, for example, generate an error message? If so, what was the error?


2) Have you successfully played this .AVI, from start to finish?


3) Have you run the .AVI through the latest version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod (set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy") - and scanned for errors and, if needed, masked bad frames and saved with a new filename?

The conversion just hang (freeze) there. Mouse, keyboard, hd all not working.

I hv tried all types of AVIs and the results FREEZE again. I used GSPOT to check and the avis are ok.

I did a new installation of windows in another hd and the conversion still freeze.

Could it be that the CPU usage is too much till it freeze my system. Im operating my PC in air con room, and my casing open to ensure no overheating. It still hang.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

avidivx to dvd problem

If your encoding with Tmpeg freezes this may have several
reasons.
1.Several divx codecs are concurring with each other...
especially Divx 5.05 is not likly to work with other
divx codecs installed.
uninstall all other divx codecs but the needed one
while encoding.(Tsunami codec sniper)

2. Does the divx file contain an AC3 audiostream??
If so...Tmpeg has its difficulties to convertert an AC3 stream
to an mpeg layer 2 audiostream ....
just demux the divxfile with vitual dub MOD !!
and then use Head AC3 or besweet to convert the so extacted
AC3 stream to wave format.

3.An installed nimo codec pack maybe messed up your system
remove it temporarily while encoding

In addition to that I also like to recomend
using FITCD + avisynth frameserver and cinemacraft encoder
to produce a dvd compatible mpeg2 stream.

I admit that the needed settings are not as confortable
as in Tmpeg but it is way faster and if done right unlikely to freeze.

Yes, I did. It post no error from start to the end for Direct Stream Copy.

I tried uninstalling all other codecs, and left DivX5 codec, but still not working. The file is in div3 format as stated in GSpot and it is not AC3 coded, only MP3.

I juz try Roxio Movie Creator, still fail........

As an experiment (to determine if filesize or available space might be problematic), try splitting the .AVI into two equal pieces - and try processing the first one in TMPGEnc...

I have tried other avi of smaller file size (15 to 20 MB), but none works.

Got a strong sense is the CPU utilisation problem. Everytime when I tried to convert, it is always hitting 98 to 100%. And always freeze at 100%. Do U think so? Any suggestions or opinions??

I hate to say this in praise of M$ but Windows XP almost never crashes or freezes. Only time I ever saw the BSOD was using ZoomPlayer... Anyway if your system ever hangs or crashes, it is almost definitely due to hardware problems. Maybe your fan's not working properly, it would do you good to check it.

If you had bothered to mention this in your initial post, I'd have suggested to you that your system is probably overheating...

I have mentioned that I have been turning on the air con and the casing is open, but the results still the same!!!!
