Need help (from a newbie)

I've just been sent a movie that someone composed using Xvid codecs. I'm using Divx to play the movie, but when I loaded it (it was saved as an AVI) to play I was getting sound but no picture. I got a notice telling me the I was having a FourCC problem as it was encoded with XVID and I hadn't an Xvid codec. I downloaded XVIC and converted it to a DIVX. Tried to play it and it plays fine, but the movie is back to front and upside down. What have I done and is there any way to get it the right way?

Sorry if this is a dozy question, but if someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it

Download and install the above playback filter. Go to its Configuration; under the tab Codec, enable its support for XVID. You will now be able to play the file given to you by your friend.
