Audio Conversion/Editting Program

Not strictly video related (although indirectly it is as I'm compiling a Soundtrack for a DVD Video) but I thought I would ask anyway.

Can anyone recommend a programme that allows conversion between .wav, .mp3, CD Audio and .wma? And also has basic editting features, i.e. you can chop ends/starts off? I have been using Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer that fulfilled all my needs but I need to register it now to continue and was just wondering if there is anything better (and maybe cheaper)?
