Weirdest playback problem!

Now my avi and mpeg movie only play as a black screen with sound.
It's like this when I use powerdvd, mediaplayer, allplayer, vlc.
But the movie shows and the sound plays when I use windvd, although the movie goes fullscreen and it is impossible to stop it or do anything else except for pressing alt+f4.

I have installed the ace mega codec pack and xvid.

Try resetting the decoder settings to default values. You might also get some improvement going with FFDShow as an alternate decoder.

How do I do that?
I went through the configureS folder in the ace megacodecs pack directory and that didn't change anything.
Then I tried to reinstall ffdshow but the system didn't let my override the ffdshow.ax file. Yet windvd plays the files in fullscreen.

Don't know whether the "configureS folder in the ace megacodecs pack directory" is the same as that of FFDShow though. I suggest you uninstall the codec pack AND reinstall it, this time without FFDShow (which will be installed separately). Once you have done that, go to FFDShow's Configuration (you can find it in the Start Menu) and set it to handle the types of compressions you want it to handle.
