Video stops, audio carries on

I have a problem where the video freezes but the audio continues playing.

I've tried the file in both BSPlayer 0.84C and WMP6.4.. Happens at the same point in both.

I think it may be a problem in the way it was encoded... Do people agree? And is there any way to fix the problem? At the moment I have to jump to a few seconds after the offending point and let it continue playing from there... Which is pretty annoying.

I don't think so; i think you have a bad/corrupt frame(s)

One way to find out is to load the movie in VDub and start playing just before the point where you encounter the problem
It should stop at the bad frame with a new window "virtual dub error"

Another way to find out is load your movie in a modified VDub version (VirtualDub-mp3-freeze) and let the program find (and log) the bad frames for you.

Now you can a few things:
A. Repair the freezing frames with AVIDeFreezer
B. Cut out the bad frames with Virtual Dub

If you only watch your moviez on your PC then there is another choice
C. Download a program called DivXAntiFreeze

from the developpers site:
Sometimes DivX video clips contain invalid frames that cause Media Player to freeze the image. Theoretically codec should recover from the problem, but it doesn't. So image is freezed permanently until clip position is manually changed (by moving position slider). DivX AntiFreeze avoids such freezings.

DivX AntiFreeze can be configurably used for DivX and MS MPEG4 (v1, v2, v3) clips.

NB! DivX AntiFreeze just avoids permanent freezings during playback, it does not fix the clip.

my $0.02 : The frames could have been masked too...but as abdul said you can find this out when you load them into Virtualdub.

VirtualDub standard has some problems:

- it's working to mask bad frames but it's not working with VBR - mp3
- even if you search for bad frames and then you save the new avi, with some codecs it's not working (ex. xvid)

VirtualDub mp3-VBR has corrected the first problem (VBR) but not the second.

Divxrepair can correct both problems.
