Error Code While Trying to Playback Movie

I was trying to play a file that I downloaded just recently on my DivX (5.1 version, that comes with the 2.5 player, I think) player and the file didn't play. The error message I got was :

    FOURCC code "XVID"

What am I missing in order to play this file? I don't want to be "remotely queued" again!

    Thanks.

Oh, it's an .avi file, so that at least fulfils ONE requirement for playing with DivX, no?

And if played with Windows Media Player, I only get the sound, no picture. I hope that's enough info to help you guys to help me figure this out because I'm VERY new with DivX and stuff.

    Welcome to the fora!

FOURCC"XVID" means your avi is encoded with Xvid codec and you need either Xvid codec/Decoder or FFDSHOW filter to playback.(both available in d/l section).no you cannot playback XviD content with DivX.

Which is a better option, the Xvid Codec or the FFDSHOW filter? I don't want to download too many Codecs, for fear of lack of space.

Thank you SO much for your help!

            1. codecs are usually very small....

            2. the ffdshow filter can decode more than just xvid.

            3. make sure to follow the instructions for xvid closley
            when decoding xvid with ffdshow...

Download the Xvid Codec, an open source MPEG-4 codec for encoding and decoding (playback)

Now that I've got the XviD Codec, I can play the file, but there are several setbacks while playing them.

On my Downloader Module (since I can't say which one), the problem is the audio does NOT match the video. The timing is not there.

On Windows Media Player, the video is choppy, not smooth at all, more like viewing photos.

On DivX, there's only the audio, no visual.

              What can I do?

"you cannot playback XviD content with DivX"

You can actually play XviD-compressed videos using the DivX decoder, to a certain extent. If I remember right, the DivX decoder can be used for this purpose as long as multi/consecutive B-frames are NOT enabled on the XviD-compressed video.

I'd go with FFDShow. The decoded results normally look better and many powerful tools/features are available under FFDShow.
