    Unknown File Format In BSPlayer

Hey, I recently tried to view a movie I was told was encoded using XviD. As I have the latest XviD installed, I assumed it would work fine. When I attempted playback in BSPlayer and WMP 8, both failed...and BSPlayer gave me:

    "An Unknown Format (DX50)"

I then proceeded to place the file in GSpot which told me I had all compatible codecs installed, (which I thought I did) but then also told me it was actually encoded in DivX 5! I thought then it was a problem with ffdshow, so I uninstalled it, still same error, still same results in GSpot. I then downloaded a newer version of ffdshow, installed it, and exact same results in BSPlayer and GSpot. I can't understand why GSpot tells me I have the correct codecs installed, yet playback fails. As a last resort, I tried it in AVIPreview...I had sound but no video...

Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance to those who reply

Thanks a lot for replying...and once I downloaded DivX 5...it worked in the DivX player with no problem, however, BSPlayer still gives me the same error message I don't mind that much watching it in the DivX player, but I still prefer BSPlayer...any ideas to why this problem only occurs in it??

Thanks again, and thanks to anyone kind enough to reply to this

      Regards, SoupyC

p.s. Sorry if these questions sound a bit noob-ish....but I'm quite new to all of this

Well, firstly thanks again for replying

Secondly, it doesn't play in WMP, and I checked and I do have the latest version of BSPlayer.

And lastly, just to say that when I watched it in DivX Player, it was unwatchable...the first few seconds were OK then it became all blocky...and only certain blocks played properly and the rest stuck with the frame they stopped at...and then it jumped to and fro different scenes I think I'll try to get another version of the video instead...however if you feel you can help me, please do!

          Thanks in advance,

          SoupyC
