No Video Playback with Xvid avi

I got a avi that's been compressed with an Xvid codec, problem is, I can't play it in any player whatsoever.

Yes I do have the latest FFDShow installed and XviD codec packages. Still not working. I've tried changing the FourCC codes and even tried other codes like DX50 for divx5 to see if I get picture.. nothing..

However I do get picture in Virtual Dub but in nothing else. I've tried BSPlay, Windows Media Player (old and new), PowerDVD, quicktime, winamp, realplayer, everything. Spent 3 hours fiddling with no success.

No player seems to see the header of the file to load the right codec. I think it may be corrupted and/or has a trojan virus on it. Last time I'm asking a friend to compress something for me EVER.

Since you got it displayed on Virtualdub, try direct streaming the video file to a new file:

    1. Open file in Virtual/nandub
    2. Set both Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
    3. Go to File -> Save as AVI... and give a name to the new file

    Try playing the new file.

    Regards.
