How can I convert a DVD .vob file into DV .avi file for editing

    Hi folks,

does anybody know how to convert an ordinary DVD .vob file into a DV .avi file like those recorded from a DV camera with IEEE1394?

Or is there any (maybe free) software for editing mpeg2 files.

    Thanks for any help,
    tonne.

Try VirtualDubMod - seems to do most things except make the tea
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

What is the nature of the editing you wish to accomplish?

I'd like to edit a private DVD

        Hi setarip,

I recorded a short family holiday movie with my DV camera (Canon MV400) some time ago and lost the original mini DV tape.
But now I found a DVD I had made from the lost tape. I'm using Premiere 6.5 for editing my recordings but the Software always crashes when importing the .vob file. So I'm searching a way to extract some scenes from the DVD into .avi video with stereo sound in order to work with Premiere 6.5.

If you have any idea helping me with my problem I'd be glad to read from you again,

        Thank you,

        tonne

I can suggest several ways to "extract some scenes from the DVD", but I'm afraid I still don't understand - Exactly what do you want to do when you're able to use Premiere 6.5?

              To johnbmx4christ

Not "why", but "what type(s) of editing" - Such as simply cutting clips, or creating fades, or changing audio, or adding still images, etc. Some of these don't require anything as sophisticated as Premiere to accomplish. That's why I'm asking "what"...

              (Nice to see you back)
